Alabama is one of the fastest growing states in the United
States. According to the Alabama Development Office
(ADO), over $9 billion was invested in new or
expanded foreign industry in Alabama between 2000 and 2006,
which generated in excess of 36,000 jobs for Alabamians.
The state’s pro-business climate has attracted more than 300
foreign-based manufacturers from more than 30 nations to
Alabama including Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Honda
Manufacturing of Alabama, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing, Toyota
Motor Manufacturing, Alabama, Inc., Siemens, Michelin, Eaton
Corporation, and Goodyear, who successfully operate here.
Most recently the German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp AG chose
Alabama for a UDS 3.7 billion steel plant which is the largest
single industrial development project ever in the U.S. It will
open in 2010 and will employ 2,700 workers.
The State of Alabama has sixty-seven counties and a land area
of 52,423 square miles. Alabama borders Tennessee to the
North; Georgia to the East; Florida to the South; and
Mississippi to the West. The largest metropolitan cities in
Alabama are Birmingham, Montgomery,
(state’s capital) Mobile, and Huntsville.
