Alabama is one of the fastest growing states in the United States. According to the Alabama Development Office (ADO), over $9 billion was invested in new or expanded foreign industry in Alabama between 2000 and 2006, which generated in excess of 36,000 jobs for Alabamians.

The state’s pro-business climate has attracted more than 300 foreign-based manufacturers from more than 30 nations to Alabama including Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama, Inc., Siemens, Michelin, Eaton Corporation, and Goodyear, who successfully operate here.

Most recently the German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp AG chose Alabama for a UDS 3.7 billion steel plant which is the largest single industrial development project ever in the U.S. It will open in 2010 and will employ 2,700 workers.

The State of Alabama has sixty-seven counties and a land area of 52,423 square miles. Alabama borders Tennessee to the North; Georgia to the East; Florida to the South; and Mississippi to the West. The largest metropolitan cities in Alabama are Birmingham, Montgomery, (state’s capital) Mobile, and Huntsville.
